Carrying a laptop bag in her left hand and a breast-milk carrier on her right, "breastmilk-backing" working mothers find it no easy task to locate suitable mother-and-baby spaces.
Carrying a laptop bag in her left hand and a breast milk storage bag over her shoulder with her right, it’s not easy for "breastmilk-backing" working mothers to find suitable mother-and-baby spaces. On March 8, International Women's Day, our reporter visited Tongfu Microelectronics Co., Ltd. and discovered that the company has thoughtfully created "Mommy Nooks" to help its "breastmilk-backing" moms conveniently store breast milk during work breaks—turning the office into a nurturing haven filled with warmth and care. Stepping into a "Mommy Nook," you’re immediately greeted by a cozy, natural ambiance that effortlessly soothes both body and mind. Inside, you’ll find essential amenities such as refrigerators, tables, chairs, storage shelves, and power outlets, along with clearly designated areas for nursing and resting. Every little detail reflects the company’s heartfelt consideration for its female employees, especially those navigating this unique and sensitive stage of life, making them feel truly cherished and supported.

Zeng Juan, a female employee from the A2 Equipment Department at Tongfu Microelectronics’ Chongchuan Factory, joined the "Tongfu" family back in 2004. Recently promoted to “second-time mom,” she now makes it a daily habit to head straight to the “Mommy Nook” right after lunch, where she can peacefully prepare nutritious meals for her baby. "Before, when I was nursing my first child, I’d have to head to the changing room—let’s be honest, it wasn’t exactly convenient. But now that we have this ‘Mommy Nook,’ it’s so much easier. The company truly thoughtfully provides such a贴心 space!" Zeng Juan shared with us. Xu Rongyan, from the A2 Technical Department, also relies on the "Mommy Nook" every day to prepare meals for her 6-month-old baby at home. She explained that all female employees who wish to use the facility must first apply; without permission, no one else can access the room by swiping their cards. "The ‘Mommy Nook’ offers excellent privacy, making it an incredibly comforting and supportive environment for working mothers who are still breastfeeding," Xu Rongyan noted.

Mao Xiangrong, Director of the Tongfu Microelectronics Union Office, explained that, recognizing the challenges faced by working mothers who pump breast milk at the company—commonly referred to as the "breastmilk-backing tribe"—Tongfu Microelectronics' Chongchuan Plant began setting up a "Mommy's Nook" last summer. By September of the same year, the second-phase facility's "Mommy's Nook" was officially put into use, followed by the third-phase area's version in November. "The company's 'Mommy's Nooks' have seen extremely high utilization rates, with approximately 1,200 employees having used them cumulatively since their launch," said Mao Xiangrong. According to statistics, Tongfu Microelectronics currently employs over 15,000 workers, among whom women make up 46%. Meanwhile, Shi Lei, President of Tongfu Microelectronics, revealed that the company plans to build an additional 3 to 4 "Mommy's Nooks" this year, further demonstrating the company's employee-centric corporate culture philosophy.

[Short Comment] Companies' Establishment of "Mommy Rooms" Highlights Humanistic Care
On the left is the workplace, and on the right is family—this is the daily reality for many working "pumping moms," yet the scarcity of dedicated mother-and-baby spaces has become a major challenge they face.
Companies are setting up "Mummy Rooms," providing working mothers—particularly those who pump breast milk—for a convenient way to store their milk during work breaks, so they can carry it home after hours to feed their babies. This initiative clearly demonstrates the company’s thoughtful consideration and care for its female employees. The presence of these "Mummy Rooms" is undoubtedly a heartwarming support system for women in the workplace who are navigating pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding—the "three critical stages."
In today’s society, young women juggle both career ambitions and the responsibilities of nurturing young children while managing their households—challenges that remain largely unknown to outsiders. At the "Mommy Nook," hardworking female employees can sit or lie down as needed, enjoying a peaceful moment of solitude. This brief respite not only rejuvenates their minds and bodies but also helps them return to work feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day’s challenges with renewed energy and focus.
Today, more and more companies are embracing the "Mommy Nook" initiative as part of their corporate culture—providing both support and assistance to working mothers who breastfeed and their families, while also offering professional, compassionate, and welcoming services that help all professional women navigate their unique physiological stages with ease. This not only enhances career women's sense of belonging, fulfillment, and happiness but also proves to be a truly beneficial endeavor.
