Recently, news came from the Intellectual Property Department of the company's Industry Research Institute: as of July 31, the company’s patent applications have surpassed the milestone of 1,000 (reaching 1,010 applications). Among these, 667 are Chinese invention patent applications, 294 are Chinese utility model patent applications, and 49 are international patent applications. The company has also accumulated over 500 granted patents, with an average of 4 patents per 100 employees within the group. Notably, among local enterprises in Nantong, the company ranks first in both the number of U.S. invention patent applications filed and patents granted.
Intellectual property is a vital reflection of a company’s core competitiveness and serves as a crucial vehicle for realizing innovative value. Over the years, the company has consistently placed great emphasis on intellectual property initiatives. To manage the group’s IP activities effectively, the company has established a dedicated Intellectual Property Department within its Industry Research Institute, with President Shi Lei personally serving as the director of the institute. Adhering to the guiding principles of "encouraging innovation, facilitating technology transfer, protecting rights in accordance with the law, and ensuring scientific management," the company has integrated patent application volume into the performance evaluation metrics for technical and managerial personnel. Notably, since the company took on major national science and technology projects, its annual patent filings have surged dramatically—from fewer than 20 patents previously to nearly 100 this year, meaning, on average, one new patent "emerges" every four days. These robust patent applications are driving the company’s innovation forward; in recent years, more than 20 cutting-edge technologies and products have been successfully developed and scaled up for mass production. Among them, several advanced packaging solutions have become the first domestically produced to achieve large-scale manufacturing, breaking foreign monopolies and filling critical domestic gaps. As a result, the gap between China’s packaging technology and the world’s leading-edge capabilities has narrowed significantly—from over a decade to less than three years today.
In terms of intellectual property management, the company has established a standardized IP management system and formulated comprehensive IP management policies. In 2015, it became the first in the industry to successfully obtain certification for its IP management system. Back in 2010, the company pioneered the creation of a localized patent database in Nantong, and by 2015, it had developed Nantong's first specialized, IT-based IP management platform. This platform enables technical staff to seamlessly manage the entire process—from patent proposals and internal reviews to agency collaboration, official examination responses, and ultimately, patent maintenance—all online. As a result, the company was recognized as one of Nantong's first IP-intensive enterprises.
As of now, the company has won a silver award at the International Invention Exhibition for two of its patents, while more than ten additional patents and inventors have received national, provincial, and municipal honors. The company’s advanced practices in intellectual property management—and the remarkable achievements they’ve yielded—led to its recognition as a National Intellectual Property Demonstration Enterprise in 2017. Furthermore, the company was honored with the National Patent Excellence Award for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020.
